Description

Ash Williams and his girlfriend Linda decide to spend a weekend in an abandoned cabin in the woods. In the cabin they find a tape recorder and hear the voice of an archeology professor reciting passages from the Necronomicon Ex Mortis or Book of the Dead. The words of the recording awaken an ancient evil spirit, which possesses Linda. Ash, in self-defense, is forced to decapitate his girlfriend and subsequently mutilate himself with a chainsaw when his hand is also possessed by the spirit. The professor's daughter, Annie, returns from the dig with more pages of the Necronomicon. Together with another companion and a couple of guides they head to the house where they take the deranged Ash for a murderer.
