The action of X-Men : First Class is set in the 60s, at the beginning of the space age, the height of the Cold War, when growing tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union threatened the entire planet, and when the world discovered the existence of mutants. It was also during this period that Charles Xavier met Erik Lehnsherr. Before Charles and Erik adopted the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young people immersed in the process of discovering their powers. Before they were archenemies, they worked together and with other mutants to stop the greatest threat the world had ever known.
